How to Choose the Perfect Photo for Wall Art

You have thousands of photos on your phone. But which ones actually work as wall art? The difference between a print that wows and one that disappoints usually comes down to three things: resolution, composition, and colour.
Resolution: bigger is better
For a crisp print at 16×20 inches or larger, you need at least 3000 × 4000 pixels (about 12 megapixels). Most modern smartphones shoot at 12MP or higher, so you're likely covered — but avoid using heavily cropped or filtered images, as these lose quality fast.
Pro tip: When you send us your photo on WhatsApp, our team checks the resolution before producing your proof. If the image won't look good at your chosen size, we'll tell you before you commit.
Composition: what works on a wall
Photos that work as wall art tend to have a clear subject and breathing room around it. Landscape shots, architectural details, and portraits with negative space all scale beautifully. Busy group photos or cluttered scenes can look overwhelming at large sizes.
Colour: natural tones print best
Photos with warm, natural tones — golden hour landscapes, earthy interiors, skin tones — translate beautifully to print. Heavily filtered images (especially those with boosted saturation) can look unnatural when printed on premium materials.
