A4 vs A5 vs A3 Brochures: Choosing the Right Size in India

Brochures in India default to A4 — but A4 isn't always the right answer. Here's when A5 wins, when A3 wins, and when the unusual DL size is worth considering.

A4 (210 × 297 mm) — the standard

• Best for: most corporate brochures, real estate, education, healthcare
• Reading: comfortably held in one hand; folds into A5 (bi-fold) or thirds (tri-fold)
• Storage: fits standard file folders, hand-out racks, A4 envelopes
• Mailing: fits a standard letter envelope when bi-folded
• Default choice if you're not sure

A5 (148 × 210 mm) — the smaller option

• Best for: takeaway brochures (left at counters, hotel rooms), product mini-catalogues, event programmes
• Reading: easier to carry in a handbag/pocket
• Cost: ~30% cheaper than A4 at the same paper weight
• Limitation: less room for content; works only if your message is genuinely short
• Bi-fold A5 works great as a wedding invitation insert or restaurant menu

A3 (297 × 420 mm) — the oversized option
