Bulk Dangler Orders — How to Plan a Retail Campaign

Ordering 5 danglers for a small shop is simple. Ordering 200 for a chain of stores or a multi-week campaign needs a plan. Here's the checklist that prevents wasted prints and missed dates.
Step 1 — Map the placement
Before designing, count where danglers will hang. For each location:
- How many ceiling hang points are available?
- What's the ceiling height (determines shape and size)?
- Are there A/C vents to avoid?
- Is the lighting LED or fluorescent (affects colour choice)?
Walk every location with a phone, take photos, then plan from photos rather than from memory.
Step 2 — Decide what's the same, what differs
For campaigns across multiple stores or multiple sections, decide:
- One design across all locations: cheapest, easiest, but feels generic
- Same template, different location/section text per dangler: 10–20% more cost, much higher relevance
- Completely different designs by section: most expensive, highest impact if budget allows
The middle option (template + variant text) is the sweet spot for most multi-location chains.
Step 3 — Order 10–20% extra
Always order more than you need. Danglers get damaged in shipping, lost during installation, taken home as souvenirs. A 10–20% buffer prevents emergency reorders.
- For 50 danglers, order 55–60
- For 200 danglers, order 220–240
- For 500+ danglers, order 5% extra (the percentage drops at scale)
Step 4 — Plan the install
Installation is the silent cost. For 200 danglers across 10 stores, install takes:
- 2 people × 4 hours per store = 80 person-hours total
- Plan install during off-hours (before opening, after closing) to avoid disrupting shopping
- Provide installers with a map showing where each dangler goes (with a labelled photo if possible)
- Include 50 ft of nylon string and scissors per store — installers always run out
Step 5 — Plan removal too
The most-forgotten step: who takes them down at end of campaign? Stale "Diwali Sale" signs hanging in February look terrible. Bake removal into the campaign timeline:
- Set a hard date for end of campaign
- Assign removal to specific people
- If campaign extends or pivots, design the next campaign before removing the old one — install fresh, remove stale, in one pass
Lead times for bulk orders
- 50–100 danglers, paper: 3–5 business days production + shipping
- 200–500 danglers, paper: 5–7 business days
- 50–100 danglers, sunboard/foam: 5–7 business days
- 500+ danglers, mixed materials: 10–14 business days
For festival campaigns, finalise design 4 weeks before the festival and order 3 weeks before.
