Foam Board Sign Mounting: Drilled Holes, Easel-Back, Hooks

The mounting hardware you order with a foam board sign determines whether it sits on a desk, hangs from a wall, or props up by itself. Pick the wrong one and you'll be improvising with double-sided tape on the day of the event.

Drilled holes (wall-mount)

Two or four small holes punched through the corners of the foam board. You hang it with screws, nails, or hooks.

• Best for: permanent wall-mounted signage, retail directional signs, wayfinding boards
• Pros: stays put indefinitely; cheap to add
• Cons: requires drilling the wall; not portable

Easel-back (free-standing)

A fold-out cardboard or plastic strut on the back of the sign. The sign stands up by itself at an angle, like a desk picture frame.

• Best for: reception desks, restaurant counters, exhibition tabletops, point-of-sale signage
• Pros: stands anywhere; can be moved around freely; flatpacks when folded
• Cons: won't survive heavy bumping; needs a flat surface; size limits (mostly works up to ~A2)

Hanging hooks (suspended)

Adhesive or screw-attached hooks on the top edge of the board. You hang the sign from a ceiling, a clothesline-style wire, or two anchor points on a wall.

• Best for: hanging signage in shops/restaurants, directional signs at events, ceiling-suspended POS displays
• Pros: versatile placement; visible from multiple angles
• Cons: needs anchor points; can sway in air currents

Combinations

You can order a foam board sign with multiple mounting options on the same board. Common combos:

• Drilled holes + easel-back: use as a wall sign at the office, then as a tabletop sign at events
• Hanging hooks + adhesive strips: can be ceiling-hung or wall-mounted depending on the venue

What to skip

• Magnetic backing. Foam board is too light for magnets to hold reliably; the magnet plus the board's own weight pulls it down within hours.
• Velcro mounting. Works initially; loses adhesion within weeks in Indian humidity.
