Foam Board Sign Sizes for Retail, Events, and Entrances

Foam board signs scale differently from banners. A foam board sign is read up close, not from across the road. Standard sizes follow content + viewing distance.

Point-of-sale (counter signs)

Viewing distance: 30 cm to 1 metre. Content: short messages, price callouts, single-product highlights.

• A5 (148×210 mm): tabletop card or coupon-size sign
• A4 (210×297 mm): the most common counter sign size — fits "Today's special" or "New arrivals"
• A3 (297×420 mm): larger counter sign for above-eye-level placement

Retail wayfinding (directional signs)

Viewing distance: 2–5 metres. Content: short directional copy, arrows, room/section names.

• A3 (297×420 mm): "← Changing Rooms" / "Restrooms →" — read from across an aisle
• A2 (420×594 mm): store directory, mounted at eye-level near the entrance

Event signage (welcome boards, registration)

Viewing distance: 3–10 metres. Content: event name, key info, sponsor logos.

• A1 (594×841 mm): standard welcome board on an easel
• 2×3 ft (60×90 cm): larger welcome board, room-divider placement
• 3×4 ft (90×120 cm): photo backdrop or stage-side signage

Exhibition / booth signage

Viewing distance: 1–3 metres. Content: brand + tagline + 3–5 feature points.

• A2 (420×594 mm): info panel mounted on a stand
• A1 (594×841 mm): primary stall-front sign

Wedding / private event signage

Indian wedding signage has unique patterns:

• "Bride & Groom" welcome signs: A1 or 2×3 ft, on easels at the entrance
• Table number cards: A4 or A5, on tabletop easels
• "Reception this way" directional signs: A3 or A2 at corridor junctions
• Pre-wedding photo backdrop: 4×6 ft or larger — but at this size, vinyl on a frame is usually a better choice than foam board

The size-content cheatsheet

If you have ≤15 words of content → A4 / A3.
If you have 15–40 words → A2 / A1.
If you have 40+ words → reconsider whether a sign is the right format (it might need to be a brochure or a roll-up banner).
