Modern vs Traditional Business Card Layouts for Indian Professionals

Walk into any office in Hubli, Pune, or Chennai and ask for business cards from ten people. Eight will hand you a card with a centred name, a centred role, and centred contact details below. That layout has worked for decades — but it's no longer the only choice that signals "professional" in India.

The traditional centred layout

Name centred at the top in a serif font. Role beneath in italic. Contact block centred at the bottom. Sometimes a horizontal divider line. This is what most printers in India default to, and it still works for:

The asymmetric "designer" layout

Name in one corner, contact in the opposite corner, often with a graphic element bridging them. High-risk, high-reward. Looks stunning when done well, looks chaotic when done badly. Use only if you have a designer (or strong visual instinct) on hand.

Bilingual options for Indian markets

For businesses that operate in regional languages — Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra — a bilingual back side is increasingly common. Front in English, back in Kannada/Tamil/Malayalam/Marathi. This signals respect for local customers without making the card harder to use in English-speaking contexts.

Font pairings that always work in India

If you're not a designer and don't want to think too hard, three font pairings consistently work:

• Garamond + Source Sans — traditional but not stuffy
• Playfair Display + Inter — modern editorial
• Manrope + JetBrains Mono — designer-feel (heavy on Display + Mono contrast)

Avoid these in 2026

• Drop shadows on text
• Gradient backgrounds
• Italic + bold + underline on the same word
