Photo Print Sizes in India: 4×6, 5×7, 8×10 — When Each Works

Most photo print orders in India boil down to three sizes: 4×6, 5×7, and 8×10 inches. Each has its own job. Pick wrong and the print either dominates a shelf or disappears in a frame. Here's how to choose.

4×6 — the classic

The size every camera lab in India has printed for decades. 4×6 fits the standard 3:2 aspect ratio of DSLR and most phone photos (when shot in 4:3, it crops slightly).

• Use for: photo albums, wallet-size keepsakes, gift sets of 10–20
• Viewing distance: 30–60 cm — held in the hand
• Cost: the cheapest option per print; ideal for bulk orders

5×7 — the gift size

The size most thoughtful single-photo gifts default to. Big enough to display on a shelf or small frame, small enough to feel intimate.

• Use for: framed gifts, milestone photos (birthday, anniversary), small wall clusters
• Viewing distance: 60–120 cm — on a desk or shelf
• Frames: fits any standard 5×7 frame from Amazon/IKEA/local craft stores

8×10 — the showcase size

The largest "standard" photo print before you cross into wall-art territory. Big enough to be a focal point, small enough to not need professional framing.

• Use for: portraits to frame and hang, family photos, single hero shots in a gallery wall
• Viewing distance: 1–2 metres — wall mount or large frame
• Resolution: 12MP phone photos work; anything older might look soft

Sizes we recommend skipping for first orders

• 6×4 / 7×5 / 10×8 — same dimensions, just swapped orientation. Order in the natural direction of your photo.
• A4 photo prints — close to 8×10 but with a slightly different aspect ratio that crops most photos awkwardly.

Bulk-order logic

If you're printing the highlights from a trip or a wedding, the most common pattern is: most photos as 4×6 (for the album), 5–10 as 5×7 (the favourites, for gifting), and 1–3 as 8×10 (the hero shots for framing). This costs less than printing everything at one size and uses each size where it earns its place.
