Paper Weight for Tent Cards: 250 vs 300 vs 350 GSM

The single biggest factor in whether a tent card stands up properly is paper weight. Too light and it collapses; too heavy and it looks like cardboard. Here's the sweet spot for each use.

250 GSM

Minimum acceptable weight for tent cards. Suitable for small (≤A5) sizes only.

• Works for: 4×6 inch tent cards in dry indoor environments
• Lamination: required, otherwise the card sags
• Risk: in humid Indian climates (Mumbai, Chennai, coastal Karnataka) the card softens within weeks
• Cost: the cheapest option

300 GSM (the standard)

The default for restaurant and event tent cards in India.

• Works for: all sizes from 4×6 up to A5
• Lamination: recommended for restaurant use (spill protection); optional for short-term event use
• Durability: 6–12 months in regular restaurant conditions
• The right answer if you're not sure

350 GSM (premium)

Heavyweight card. Used for premium fine-dining, weddings, and high-end corporate events.

• Works for: all sizes; especially good for A5+ where lighter weights start sagging
• Feel: substantial, premium — guests notice
• Lamination: optional — the heavier weight is durable enough alone
• Best for: wedding place cards, fine-dining specials, premium product launches
• Cost: ~30% more than 300 GSM

The scoring rule

For 300 GSM and 350 GSM, the fold needs to be scored before folding — a pre-creased line where the fold happens. Without scoring, heavy paper cracks at the fold. Print shops do this automatically for tent cards; just confirm scoring is included when ordering.

How to test before bulk ordering

Order 5 sample tent cards at your intended size in 300 GSM. Place one on each table in your restaurant for a day. If they're standing properly the next morning, your weight is right. If they're sagging, go to 350 GSM.
