Vinyl Banner Sizes for Indian Shops and Events — The Practical Guide

The wrong vinyl banner size is one of the most expensive mistakes in Indian retail signage. A banner too small looks half-hearted; one too big looks rented from a wedding. Here's how to right-size for the most common Indian use-cases.

Shopfront signage

A standard Indian shopfront is 12–18 feet wide. A practical rule: the main banner should span 60–70% of the available width. So:

• 12 ft shopfront → 7–8 ft wide banner
• 15 ft shopfront → 9–10 ft wide banner
• 18 ft shopfront → 11–12 ft wide banner

Banner height is usually 3–4 feet for a standard horizontal layout. Anything below 2.5 ft and the text becomes unreadable from across the street.

Indoor event signage (weddings, exhibitions)

The math here is different — the viewer is closer. Practical sizes:

• Welcome banner at an entrance → 4 ft × 3 ft, mounted at head height
• Photo backdrop → 8 ft × 6 ft minimum to cover a couple posing
• Stage backdrop → 12–16 ft × 8 ft to fill a typical stage frame
• Exhibition stall banner → 6 ft × 3 ft, mounted along the stall front

Roadside / promotional banners

The further the viewer, the bigger the text needs to be. Practical sizes:

• 10–15 ft viewing distance (storefront) → text minimum 4 inches tall
• 30–50 ft (across-the-street) → text minimum 8 inches tall
• 100 ft+ (highway) → text minimum 18 inches tall

Work backwards from text size: if your tallest text is 8 inches, the banner needs to be roughly 4 ft tall to accommodate text plus margins plus a logo.
